Some may know Maria Sais de Sicilia from her delicately striking vocal harmonies that accompany Leighton Antelman’s gut-wrenching confessions on Lydia’s 2005 debut, This December; It’s One More And I’m Free. While this is where many of us first fell for her voice, the thrill of hearing her perform would unfortunately be short-lived as soon after the album released, she parted ways with Antelman and Lydia. After a hiatus from music for a few years, she made a humble return in 2011 by taking to the internet with honest covers and an unmistakeable charm. She wouldn’t stop there though.

With 2012 around the corner, she had plans to make it her most promising year yet. This past March she released the debut album, Origins, with the warm and fuzzy indie-folk outfit Bears of Manitou. While the band would be her gateway back into a world that she was at ends with disappearing from, she had no intentions of slowing down. With an ace up her sleeve in the form of a solo album, she planned to impress listeners with some of her most personal work yet under the moniker, Her & Gold.

While she isn’t quite the household name that Taylor Swift or Hayley Williams is, she’s not letting it deter her one bit and is out to prove to the world that she has as much to say with her music as the next big name. The type of heart that goes into her work isn’t something that should be overlooked and is a true gift for those seeking modesty in great DIY music. 

Her new single, “Magnolia” released today to the anxious ears of many. Those interested can give it a listen or purchase it off iTunes. In support of the single and her upcoming Her & Gold debut, I got to chat with Maria this past weekend through email correspondence about everything from The Voice to her days with Lydia, and how her music is just as likely to be inspired by It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia as it is Michael Jackson. Yellow! I have an update about the new album I just tracked in June/July with Matt Malpass in Atlanta-  All the songs are being mastered right meow and I should have this baybeh released before the end of 2012.  Also, I will tell you what I titled the album! Ready?
